Texas Tech Red Raiders vs Ole Miss Rebels, Prediction, 2009 Cotton Bowl. This is probably the hardest of all games for me to predict. I know that Texas Tech has one of the highest powered offenses in the country. I think strongly that Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree will both be respected NFL players shortly. I feel Coach Mike Leach could write his ticket to another school if he chooses for turning this program into such a juggernaut. I also understand that Texas Tech beat Texas and Oklahoma State during the season. I am aware that everyone in the country thinks Texas Tech should be able to put up a large number because of their complicated spread offense.
Flip the coin. Did you know that Mississippi beat the last two national champions this season with victories over Florida (on the road) and LSU this season? Can you believe that the combined number of points in the four Ole Miss losses is only 19 points? Who would have cared that Ole’ Miss is 2-1 and Texas Tech 0-3 in previous Cotton Bowl appearances?
I am going to go against the majority in this game. The way I see it, Mississippi will win the Cotton Bowl if they watch the films from the Texas Tech – Oklahoma game. The key to beating the Red Raiders is pressure! Houston Nutt has proven to be a great find for Ole’ Miss in his first year, but is he smart enough to adapt to what works? I think he is. Look for pressure and lots of it against Harrell and the offensive monster that Texas Tech is. Ole’ Miss only gives up 17.8 ppg, whereas Texas Tech scores 44.6 ppg. If Ole’ Miss can keep Texas Tech below 30 points, then they will be victorious. The Red Raiders are explosive and can score points in a minute, ask Texas. So Mississippi can’t get lazy and take plays off. If I am Houston Nutt, I am constantly shuffling capable and fresh bodies in and out to harass Graham Harrell. I like the upset in the last Cotton Bowl to be played at Cotton Bowl Stadium. This game is moving to the new Dallas Cowboys facility starting next year.
The Rebels will need consistency from their quarterback, Jevon Snead. They will also have to show the balance that won them eight games this season being third in rushing, and fourth in passing in the SEC. The keys to the game are pressure, balance and coaching. I give Mississippi the edge in all three categories in this years Cotton Bowl. Cotton Bowl 1/2/09 2 PM EST FOX #7 Texas Tech Red Raiders vs #25 Mississippi Rebels

SMART MAN. Way to understand that no one matches up with SEC defense.
