Last Year’s Real National Championship Game: Almost

Now if you know me, you know I’m a fan of comic books. And an integral aspect of the comic book experience is the premise of the what if. And before I bore you with tales of what if the Martian Manhunter was a White Martian or what if the Punisher was black, I will just tell you that it’s something that easily translates to sports. So when Team Speed Kills reported on the news of an abortive attempt at a game between Florida and Utah, suffice it to say that I was intrigued.

For you see, the cupcake game has permeated college football and I live in the two worlds where it’s at its most offensive. But then again? You look at the article, and you see that there’s a lot that goes into making a game. First of all, it takes a lot to get a team to come for a one game series. Second of all, the mid-majors worth a damn aren’t exactly willing to travel to your house for a one game shot. And third of all, everybody wants to get as many wins as possible.

This is why Florida is a 63 point favorite versus Charleston Southern. This is why Appalachian State embarrassed Michigan. This is why the Wisconsin Badgers should have lost to Cal Poly-SLO. Because somebody’s got to step up for the adamantine stances of the Athletic directors.
