SEC Football Lines: Week 3

Posted on | September 16, 2009 | 1 Comment

I guess I am an idiot savant at this for this season. In terms of guessing margin of victory? I’ve only really whiffed on one non-cupcake game. 12-3 overall. I mean, if it wasn’t for Jonathan Crompton, my life would be perfect. But these Cupcakes are delicious.

I bounce these picks three yards behind the receiver for you. Starting…now!

Louisville @ -10 Kentucky

The Cardinals? They’re kind of bad at football. In fact, they sleepwalked through a home game versus the expected cellar dweller of the Missouri Valley conference. It seems like a strange and a wacky thing to do. But you know what? Kentucky’s confident, Louisville’s shaky and has bigger road games to come. I will take the Wildcats.

North Texas +38 @ Alabama

The line is just too big. North Texas is going to get a Touchdown. I mean, I guess Vegas doesn’t know that Alabama always stops around 40 points yet. But hey. That’s okay. It’ll make me look good.

Tennessee +29 @ Florida

I’m going to be contrarian. Obviously, nobody thinks Tennessee is going to win. But you know what? This is the sort of thing that’s made for a closer game than indicated. It’s us against the world. It’s the quarterback nobody wanted against the single greatest entity in college sports with a coach who took an ego hit.  This game will be close going into the 4th quarter. And the Vols will cover comfortably.

Louisiana-Lafayette @ -26 LSU

The Cajun Rage has a problem. It’s a night game in Death Valley and nobody’s given this team credit for showing up yet. It was a good win last week, but this week they fall back to Earth.

Florida Atlantic +21 @ South Carolina

Two words. Trap game. The Gamecocks get Ole Miss and a short week coming up. Two more words. Inconsistent offense. I have my weakest endorsement coming to this end result. But if one of these things is not like the other? You can’t trust the anomaly. Take the points.

Mississippi State +8.5 @ Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt is getting absolutely racked with injuries. Mississippi State actually has some semblance of an offense to their name. But Jared Hawkins is probable. So, while I will tell you that this will be a cover. The only upset here is that both teams should get into the 20′s.

Georgia @ +2 Arkansas

This has all the makings of something fun. Arkansas actually has a legitimate passing game. But the expectation remains that they can’t stop anybody. But Arkansas knows how to take care of the ball. And that’s why they will win.

West Virginia @ -5 Auburn

Malzahn Mania has swept Auburn. And I have to admit I’m hooked. I know there’s an institutional memory of the spread and shred for the Fighting Couch Burners? But Auburn’s going to put up a touchdown’s more worth of points.

And you would have to figure that even if Jevan Snead decides to sleep walk through the game
against SE Louisiana Step Brothers style? They’ll win by 30. Video not safe for swears.

Last Week: 4-2
Record So Far: 12-3

I agree with these thoughts on the Florida v.Tennessee game.

Other than the Georgia/Arkansas game the Florida/Tennessee game could be the closest SEC game of the weekend.

Yes, it could completely get out of hand and Florida could win by 63 but sometimes games like this end up somehow being close.

If it’s even close going into the fourth quarter there will be a lot of very nervous people standing around in The Swamp.
