Is he going home?
Will Muschamp to Georgia
While only Paul Finebaum would have deigned to consider the possibility that Mark Richt was in serious trouble as a coach as we entered the season? Three straight progressively more embarrassing SEC losses have forced an ultimatum. This is a team that needs to win out. Not just beat everybody but Florida and win against Penn State in the Outback Bowl? Win out.
Why? Because DeLoss Dodds is inclined to make a return to be the Texas athletic director.
Okay, I’ll explain. Mack Brown has a successor in terms of a head coach in waiting. You know who we’re talking about, right? Right. Well, the plan is that DeLoss Dodds, who is currently eligible for Social Security, would retire. And when he does, Mack Brown would gracefully ascend to the athletic directorship.
And Will Muschamp would coach Texas. They locked him down for the express purpose of that. Though, the contract has a provision for him to be allowed to be interviewed at a few choice schools. LSU was the school a lot of people would have expected him to be interviewing for?
But the thing about Muschamp is kind of like the thing about Les Miles back in 2007. Les Miles graduated from Michigan. And Will Muschamp? He was born in Rome and graduated between the Hedges. Texas may be a dream job for any head coach.
But barring a miracle? Will Muschamp has an opportunity to be the conquering hero. Or at least restore the bite.

TX only locked Deloss Dodds down to see the Conference Realignment crap through. Mission Accomplished. He can leave at anytime and have the Longhorn Network turned over to Mack and have Mack take over or whoever his replcememnet AD will be. It’s already common knowledge that Mack has only promised to stay through Gilbert’s class. Also, it is common knowledge that if Will were to bolt UT, there is another very good SEC defensive coordinator ready to take Will’s spot at UT. Sorry but I don’t think he would be willing to give that up, especialy when TX is the better job and history says he will more than likely at some point get fired from UGA – then where would he go? He will wait for Mack to leave in a few years.

Muschamp loves Austin, his wife and kids love Austin. I think he will stay on for a couple of years. I’d love to see him take over now but unfortunately he is good friends with Gregg Davis and as long as Davis is coaching, if you call that coaching, and play calling, UT will continue to lose. The running game sucks and what does Davis mention during the beginning of the season? More running plays. Gilbert, a first year quarterback, wasn’t given the opportunity to play last year. It wasn’t coaching that took us to national championships, it was talent like Young and McCoy. The play calling is so predictable, and uncreative. With all the talent this team should be playing better.

Sharon, this was speculation when Richt had a team that was 1-4 and 0-3 in the SEC. Richt righted the ship well enough that Georgia’s not going to be looking for a new coach, this year.
Greg Davis definitely has the wrong quarterback for the style of game that he wants to run. Maybe he doesn’t have the sort of speed on the outside with his team this year. But you’d figure that a team like Texas would actually decide to make some vertical moves with the athletes they seem to recruit? Though at the rate they’re going, somebody’s going to have to take the fall for this. It won’t be Muschamp, it won’t be Mack Brown.
