LSU does have something to play for. After all, they did get jobbed last year.
LSU vs. Alabama, Prediction Pick 2010
Look at this matter on a purely statistical level, I could sincerely end this post with a three words. Alabama’s gonna win. Seriously. LSU is kind of an ugly team that got by on more crook than hook. But you’re going to be expecting at least 150 to 200 more words on this, so I’ll break down the salient points for LSU to win the day.
First, and most obvious. Win the turnover battle. Right now this is a good team in terms of generating turnovers (16), but they’ve also given up 18 turnovers. Alabama’s not going to be making near the amount of mistakes as LSU could make. So efficiency would be a key.
And by that respect. I know that this would cause angina in Baton Rouge, but starting Jarrett Lee would give LSU the best chance to win. Lee as a Freshman was scary. But he’s shown himself to be a competent game manager, though admittedly with a small sample size.
But the fact of the matter here is that Jordan Jefferson is not a dual threat quarterback. He can run to be sure. But 60 percent of the pass attempts in a game usually belong to Jefferson. And LSU is 113th in passing in large part because of it.
But that being said? The third thing they need to do is get Alabama into the obvious passing situation. If they can keep Alabama in multiple 3rd and 8 and whatnot? Then they can pass rush. And Alabama’s one major weakness that LSU can exploit.
Sacks. Alabama’s given up 22. Good for 100th. It would allow Drake Nevis and or Kelvin Sheppard and or Ryan Baker to get untracked. Greg McElroy must go down and go down hard if LSU is to win.
Les Miles is an X-Factor. Weird things always happen when he plays in the SEC. One singular utterance on the twitter of woeojuwejhdjwe and he’s got seven straight wins. And last year, if you recall, the Pat Patterson got jobbed on one of the many classic SEC calls of 2009. So the question returns?
Can LSU win this?
No, but they will cover in a defensive shootout. Alabama 14, LSU 9.
