Newton to be suspended? (With Update)

Sigh.

Newton to be suspended?

Normally, I’m not want to be the sort of guy to propagate gossip. And I know that Ian Fitzsimmons has a certain negative cachet in Alabama. But he’s reporting that sometime this afternoon, Cam Newton is going to be suspended for these amassing controversies.

The NCAA isn’t exactly known for a rapid pace in regards to controversies at major schools. See: Reggie Bush at USC, Nate Miles with UConn hoops. That being said? The new allegations brought forth by Joe Schad are most definitely leaning the pendulum further toward the Netwon’s not being on the up and up.

Which is a shame. If you watched the Marcus Dupree 30 for 30, you know that a dirty player and a dirty influence isn’t exactly a new sort of thing. And Cam Newton’s a special talent on the field. It goes without saying. But we’re talking about something in the future.

And the permutations of the potential suspension are mind-boggling. TCU could get the BCS Title Game. LaMichael James could get the Heisman. Heck, LSU could steal the SEC West out from under Auburn. But again, we’re talking future talk. This could be moot.

Though if you want a big hint about the fate of Newton? Check Las Vegas. If they take the line off the board? He’s as good as gone.

And it would be disappointing on all levels.

Or not.

UPDATE: Four Las Vegas Sportsbooks have taken the Georgia-Auburn game off their boards. So is Newton’s gonna be suspended? Potentially.
