Could Anthony Johnson be the next Nick Fairley?

That is, after all, the question. In some form or fashion Tyrann Mathieu is going to perform some semblance of replacement for the works of Patrick Peterson. Yahoo knows it, I know it, and now you know it. But the real problem? Who’s going to replace Drake Nevis.

And it seems as if like Mathieu? A local freshman seems ready to step in and make plays. The name? Anthony Johnson.

He’s a five-star kid out of New Orelans who rivals says reminds them of Darnell Dockett. His scouting report in a nutshell? Raw in terms of technique, but in terms of single gap assignments? He blows people up. And he’s been impressing in spring ball.

Why does this matter? Because when you have a defensive tackle as disruptive as what Nick Fairley was last year. You can hide a lot of weaknesses. And while time will tell in regards to just how he will emerge this year, or even if he sees the field.

But you have to figure that if someone with those raw skills can’t find a way to make things happen? Something has gone wrong.
