D.T. Shackelford tears ACL.
So, remember when I said that the defensive rebuilding for Ole Miss would start by just how much of a Patrick Willis impression that young D.T. Shackelford could do?
Yeah, that’s not going to happen.
While working through an ankle injury, Shack took part in position drills for the Rebears in indoor drills and suffered an injury that was diagnosed as a Torn ACL. So the vocal and spiritual leader of a defense that so desperately needs one? Gone.
So who replaces him? Clarence Jackson and Ralph Williams have the door open for them to make some noise. And in an ironic twist of fate? C.J. Johnson, who you might remember as the 5 star linebacker who the fans of Mississippi State chased away from Starkville despite the fact they have a severe need for one, seems to have stumbled on an opportunity to start right away.
But point of fact? This was a team that stopped no one last year. Vanderbilt was terrible on defense, and Ole Miss was four points per game and a half a yard per play worse. Ole Miss can actually make their defense better, and in the SEC West?
It’s still going to be terrible.
