SEC Winners and Losers in the NFL Draft
Now when you look at draft analysis the day after the fact? You are bound to be wrong. But that being said, the expectation game and the opportunity game are ways where you can find winners and losers for your SEC players. And it’s obvious that 80% of the Top 5 are winners.
So who else won?
Nick Fairley: Going to Detroit is the perfect opportunity for him. Any of the so-called Couch draft experts don’t have to worry. With Ndamnukong Suh as a tag team partner inside and Kyle Vandenbosch on the outside? Fairley is going to be very scary in the NFC North.
James Carpenter: A little bit of a reach for the Seahawks, as he’s a right tackle/guard type. But the Seahawks have drafted him to start. And he seems to be an answer to their problems.
Derek Sherrod: One of the things that the Packers could call a need was the offensive line. Chad Clifton’s had a tremendous career, but his run is at his end. And by this time next year? Sherrod will be the Packers Starting left tackle.
Luke Stocker: He may be a 4th round draft choice, but when you consider the age and injury history of Kellen Winslow for the Bucs? Luke Stocker is going to be a part of a team on the rise next year.
Randall Cobb: I know it seems weird for the Packers to draft a wideout in round two. But hear me out as to why the he’ll see the field faster than you think. One, James Jones is a free agent and Donald Driver has a chance to retire as a champion. Two, one of the few legitimate problems the Packers had was in the return game. Cobb fixes that. And three? Randall Cobb is just good at football.
Draft losers? Just two. You can guess that the Summer of Ryan Mallett is one of them. Though the Patriots are one of the best places he could have landed.
The other? Justin Houston. But the lemons he has could turn into some tasty lemonade. You know who was the starter opposite Tamba Hali in KC? Mike Vrabel. So quite frankly, we should see Justin Houston make an impact quickly.
