Russell Wilson: Tale of the Tape.

Barrett Trotter may be the only one who wants Russell Wilson to go to Wisconsin
Russell Wilson: Tale of the Tape.
The man who has chance to be the last great senior free agent of the SEC, all-ACC quarterback Russell Wilson, is down to two schools in his re-recruiting process. And as such? I’m going to break this down scientifically. In a classic blog trope.
First of all, neither school is going to have controversy when Russell Wilson comes. Jon Budmayr or Barrett Trotter won’t lose out on a chance to start, so there won’t be any sort of tomfoolery in that respect. So let’s break it down.
1) Offensive Line.
Auburn: The line is a weakness. If you don’t count Brandon Moseley, they have exactly three returning starts on the offensive line. And in a division where there is veteran strength through the defensive line, this hurts. This hurts a lot.
Wisconsin: They do lose three players to the NFL (Gabe Carimi, John Moffat, and Bill Nagy), but this unit was so deep last year that the loss of a five star talent like Josh Oglesby to injury went unnoticed. But with his return? There is a chance that the Badgers get four offensive linemen.
Advantage: Badgers.
2) Running Game
Auburn: In regards to talent? There’s still a lot here. Michael Dyer did all he did as a freshman. And as such, he should be more physically talented this year. And with Onterio McCalebb as a solid tag team partner they’ll be decent. But that being said? The loss of Mario Fannin’s physical gifts and Eric Smith’s dirt and grit also hurts.
Wisconsin: Here’s the thing. The Badgers had a Doak Walker finalist. His name was John Clay. He ended up third on the Badgers depth chart. That’s how dominant the run game was last year. Montee Ball was 4 yards away from joining James White and Clay at the 1000 yard mark. With a more mobile quarterback? One or both could average seven yards per carry.
Advantage: Badgers.
3) Passing Game
Auburn: If Darvin Adams was still here? It would be an easy decision. That being said? Emory Blake was clutch around the red zone last year. He returns. Phillip Lutzenkirchen is a very good tight end who will get more usage in the passing game this year. The tremendous upside potential of Trovon Reed is an X-factor.
Wisconsin: Wisconsin’s never been a team built on the throw. But that being said? Owen Daniels leads to Travis Beckum leads to Garrett Graham leads to Lance Kendricks. So whoever steps in there (Jacob Pedersen?) has a pedigree. But that being said? Outside of an injury-prone Nick Toon, a sleeper has to emerge, and I can’t think of one.
Advantage: Auburn
4) Team Upside
Auburn: The schedule does War Eagle no favors. They escaped against Mississippi State, not to mention South Carolina and Clemson (and both of those are road games). If that doesn’t get them? Road games with Arkansas and LSU will. If Russell Wilson doesn’t come here, 5-7 isn’t an impossible record.
Wisconsin: If Russell Wilson doesn’t come? You could honestly see this team playing for the Big 10 title. Not that it’s just a wide open conference, but the Badgers have four tough games, and two are home games. The fact is, if Wilson comes? He could be the catalyst for something special.
Advantage: Badgers.
5) Personal Benefits.
Auburn: All jokes aside? Auburn isn’t a place where you have to suffer through a nasty winter. It’s not a major city. But even so? Warm is warm. And if his dad does some independent contracting? Okay, okay. I’m not gonna make another joke.
Madison: Wisconsin in December is not a good decision. Not even in one of the better college towns in the nation. He’ll have something to do beyond football and the batting cages. But it gets cold up in this mother. And most 18-25 year olds will choose warm over cold.
Advantage: Auburn (Doing stuff sucks after all.)
So when you break it down scientifically? In a one year scenario? Russell Wilson would make a better decision going to Wisconsin. But will he? Perhaps no.

Dear Dennis.
Apologies for this late reply, but thank you for your interest in lunacy. Unfortunately, this is a college football blog, and states of mind are not in our purview. That being said, there is a story in regards to a Playboy listing of party schools. And it had an asterisk.
That note was, when it comes to party schools, we don’t rank professionals.
The SEC may have their beloved speed, but partying is what gets the Yankees through the cold autumn nights.
