Kentucky Season Preview Prediction Picks
Last year, the Wildcats were one of the most eminently average teams in football. Sure, they upset South Carolina. But they also let Steve Addazio put up 48 points on their defense. They ended up 6-6 and gave back their Louisville win by letting Morgan Netwon get shook by a ghost of a Wannstache.
So what happens this year?
1) Morgan Newton will make people forget whatever the last guy was at quarterback. With a strong line anchored by Stuart Hines and Larry Warford, Newton will get the time necessary to throw 25 touchdowns.
2) The main beneficiary of all this new largesse? Brian Adams. The 5-tool talent who the Canadian government has never had to apologize for showed himself to be a quality wide receiver in spring ball. And with 14 of that other guys touchdowns leaving, or currently in Green Bay? Adams just might snake ten td’s for himself.
3) There will be only a slight improvement against the run as the enigmatic Mister Cobble maintains his mystique by not being a force to be reckoned with in the trenches.
4) But that being said? While Danny Trevathan is the all-SEC defender that we all know about, there will be another. His name? Martavus Neloms. He’s a pretty strong blitzer, and a willing tackler. He’s not going to supplant Mark Barron, but I bet the other breakout goes here.
5) The good news for Kentucky? One of their longstanding SEC East losing streaks falls by the wayside. It will be in September against the SEC East team that’s still in transition after the retirement of their previous beloved head coach.
Yeah, they’re beating Florida.
6) The bad news? This is going to be a second verse same as the first scenario. If it wasn’t for Vanderbilt? They’re not going to win a road game this year, and when you consider Mississippi State and Tennessee. Kentucky is going to get 6 wins and like it.
This year: 6-6 (3-5) in the SEC East.
