Jeremiah Masoli was the harvester of sorrow.

Ole Miss Season Preview Prediction Picks

Last season for Ole Miss? Well, it was a case of tempting fate and fate deciding to slap you upside the head. After they won the rights to Jeremiah Masoli’s senior year, very little went right for them. The offense went in fits and starts, and the defense? Suffice it to say readers? I could pick up ten of you and we’d get to 21 on them. They were 4-8 and that wasn’t the floor for their incomeptence.

So what’s in store for this season?

1) Brandon Bolden will hold his place as the teams offensive MVP. The SEC is going to be rich in running backs of pedigree this year, so it probably won’t matter much for all conference honors? But a season of 1240 yards and 16 scores is a strong cap for him personally.

2) Ja-Mes Logan will lead the Rebels in receptions. This will clinch him the Heisman Trophy of players with irrational hyphens in their name.

3) Houston Nutt’s inability to develop a quarterback will prove to be a bugaboo this season as neither Randall Mackey or Barry Brunetti will run away with the starting job. Zack Stoudt will get the start for the Egg Bowl.

4) The defense will improve. But when they do, it will be to 2007 levels. (28.5 points per game, 5.7 yards per play). So yeah, they’re still not going to get to that point.

5) Though C.J. Johnson will prove to be a special talent, and he will get 17 tackles in the Egg Bowl as he tries to keep Mississippi State from winning again. Starkville would blow up his social media, but Mississippi State is going to win again.

6) Usually when Houston Nutt has his back to the wall and is about to lose his job, he can magic his way to a 9-3 season. So when I say this, yeah, I may look stupid. But the fact of the matter is that while they may beat BYU and Southern Illinois? Wins beyond that? Few and far between. 4-8 is bad?

This season: 3-9 (0-8) in the SEC West is worse.
