Another TD for Trent. Another Win. Yawn.
Alabama at Penn State Prediction Pick, 2011
Short answer? This will be ugly. Penn State had a body bag game against a team that was 8-58 since 2005 in the FCS? And the jobber did some things. They held Penn State to 114 yards passing and held them to an under 20% success rate on third down.
(In fact? They managed to get more sacks than they gave up.)
So yeah. Short answer, this is going to be ugly. Especially when you consider that Kent State is probably an above the middle of the pack team in the MAC, and Alabama held them to -9 yards rushing. That sort of work in the front seven is going to choke Silas Redd out for under 50 yards.
Because the strategy seems simple for an Alabama win. They’ll probably put 9 in the box and dare Matt McGloin and or Rob Bolden to throw the ball. Will they be successful? Long answer? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Sorry. I just love that joke. All seriousness, look for the Crimson Tide to make Penn State’s offense miserable. Will we be seeing an Alabama shutout? Probably. Especially if the passing game doesn’t get shaken up by the road trip.
Not that it wouldn’t be a small feat. After all, A.J. McCarron and Philip Sims are tied for the lead in interceptions thrown with two. It’s the reason why a defense that allowed 90 total yards of offense managed to give up points. But that being said? Penn State is going to need some turnover magic to win this.
Because between Trent Richardson, Eddie Lacy, and Jalston Fowler. Alabama is going to find their way into 180 yards rushing and two touchdowns. And that will be enough. Anything the passing game comes up with will be gravy.
All in all, it’s not going to be ugly as in blowout. It’s going to be ugly as in not fun to watch.
