SEC Prediction Pick Briefs, Week 9, featuring South Carolina at Tennessee
Last week was somewhat brutal. I got cocky and hedged the LSU game, and I said that Kentucky was going to lose. It’s a 2-2-1 week for me. Which puts me at 31-23. (30-22-2). Now that being said. This week, I have Florida beating Georgia, and you know who has the bye week by now.
Arkansas -9.5 at Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt is a scrappy team. Every game they lose? They seem to hang on for a little while beyond the average Vanderbilt team. But that being said, that passing offense proved itself to be merely decent. And Tyler Wilson creates first downs with his arms. They’ll hang in for a good while, but Jordan Rodgers will have to throw to keep them in it. Arkansas 35, Vanderbilt 17.
Mississippi State -10 at Kentucky
I was struggling with considering Kentucky as a potential upset pick. But then I looked at how bad their defense has been. Even facing a 1-AA team, they’re still allowing over 5 yards per run. And yeah, Mississippi State can’t throw. But Kentucky can’t do anything. Mississippi State 24, Kentucky 10.
Ole Miss at Auburn -12.5
The last stand of Houston Nutt was last week. He’s always good for one scare a year. It happened last week. And as bad as Kentucky has been against the run? Ole Miss is worse. Michael Dyer and Onterrio McCalebb against the 116th ranked defense per rush attempt? Hoo wee. Auburn gets their bowl eligibility wings. Auburn 31, Ole Miss 13.
South Carolina -3.5 at Tennessee
This seems like a severe overcorrection due to the Marcus Lattimore injury. Tennessee, while improving against the run, still has a pass defense that is susceptible to danger. And they are still bottom half against the run. And that defense versus the Volunteers second team? Lock of the year. South Carolina 20, Tennessee 10.
